Nine years working together

If you want something done and done well, ask Marie Hurabiell to lead the charge. Her work ethic is a marvel to see, and her fervent desire to see individuals and institutions thrive is inspiring. For nine years, The Hamlin School benefited greatly from her selfless volunteerism and respectful partnership with the school-- from community-building to fundraising to event planning to parent education-- name the venue, and she was right there with her sleeves rolled up and ready to harness her intellect, her resources, and her optimism.

Innovated together

Marie is both passionate and knowledgeable about education. She has long been studying and advocating for the kind of learning that this generation needs to thrive in the challenges presented by our future. I know from many years of conversation and collaboration that she knows how to listen and how to ask the right questions. She brings a perspective that is both fresh and urgently needed in a time when the stakes of education are higher than ever.

-- Randall Bass, Vice President, Strategic Education Initiatives,

Georgetown University

Marie's passion for education as a primary means to end the cycle of poverty for families brought fresh energy to the HFDH board.  Motivated by this awareness of the value of education and the exponential impact it can have on a person's future, she permanently improved our fundraising abilities and, therefore, the future of the organization.

Marie worked tirelessly to prevent closure of this 120 year old program & then assumed a leadership role for the capital campaign to raise funds to restore the condemned building, replaced by our beautiful school and family support center on 16th and Dolores Streets.

Marie understood the policy and leadership complexities to ensure a high quality, nationally accredited, partially government funded, early childhood education and family support program serving a socially and economically diverse population.  She was always very hands on and focused on ensuring that we executed successfully based on measurable outcomes. We built an extremely efficient infrastructure which had and continues to have profound impact with limited funds.

Marie is absolutely the person you want on your team leading an organization when there is a budget crisis.

“Marie Hurabiell was an incredible addition to Hamilton Family Center's board. Her breadth and depth of experience helped us to take decisive actions, when historically we had often talked in circles about possible solutions.”

--Jane von Bothmer, Former Hamilton Families Board Member
