City College of San Francisco (CCSF) is a beloved San Francisco institution with wonderful, caring teachers and determined, dedicated students. Founded in 1935, CCSF is the largest community college in the country serving more than 60,000 students annually.

The mission of CCSF is to provide an environment where students are encouraged to pursue higher levels of education, and its guiding principles of inclusiveness, integrity, innovation, creativity, and quality give all students equal access to those opportunities. Empowered by resources, collegiality, and public support, CCSF provides diverse communities with excellent educational opportunities and services.

CCSF has multiple centers throughout San Francisco, serves an ethnically diverse student body,  and offers an extensive variety of courses ranging from credit recovery and high school completion to noncredit courses that further pathways to citizenship. The college also provides vital support services to students. In 2017, CCSF became the first college in the nation to provide free tuition to San Francisco residents through the Free City Program.

City College of San Francisco belongs to our community and exists to provide an accessible, affordable, and high-quality education to all its students. CCSF is committed to providing an array of academic and student development services that support students’ success in attaining their academic, cultural, and civic achievements. To enhance student success and close equity achievement gaps, City College identifies and regularly assesses student learning outcomes to improve institutional effectiveness.

City College Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees are elected by San Francisco residents and are the governing board for the college and consist of eight members, including one student trustee that is elected by the student body. The Board of Trustees crafts policies, passes board resolutions, and hires the chancellor who then implements these policies through the administration. The board holds fiscal responsibility and approves the $250,000,000 budget for the college.

Independent, non-political oversight is critical.
